After nearly three years U.S. Customs and Border Protection reopen a pedestrian crossing from Tijuana into San Diego in San Diego, CA on Jan. 9, 2023. The PedWest crossing was closed at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. But when the travel restrictions were lifted it was not reopened. Thousands of asylum seekers made a makeshift camp on the Mexican side of the PedWest crossing hoping to be some of the first to cross when the crossing reopened. Thousands of asylum seekers made a makeshift camp on the Mexican side of the PedWest crossing hoping to be some of the first to cross when the crossing reopened. Thousands of asylum seekers made a makeshift camp on the Mexican side of the PedWest crossing hoping to be some of the first to cross when the crossing reopened. Mexican authorities eventually cleared the camp and moved the asylum seekers to other parts of Tijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers check the credentials of truck driver and his shipment as he passes through the U.S. checkpoint of Cargo Pre-Inspection at the Otay Mesa, Calif., port of entry, June 23, 2016. On any given day, several hundred trucks line up on the Mexican side of the border to deliver imported products awaiting the process of screening by customs officers. A growing number of shipping companies are taking advantage of CBP's Cargo Pre-Inspection which allows trusted shippers a faster and more efficient means of delivering products to U.S. retailers. by Glenn Fawcett Stock Photohttps://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/?v=1https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-us-customs-and-border-protection-officers-check-the-credentials-of-129868120.html
