Painting Exhibition - Sir John Rothenstein and his daughter Lucy at the Nicholson preview. At London's Tate Gallery the Contemporary Art Society are exhibiting 86 works by 61-year-old abstract painter Ben Nicholson. One of them is of London fashion model Anne Cox. But when she gazed at the completed work she said 'I am mystified, I fail to see any connection to myself'. The only tie-up Miss Cox was able to discover was a vermilion shape. 'I imagine it signifies my lips' she said 'because Mr. Nicholson made me wear vermilion lipstick during the sittings,'. June 15, 1955.
