An old engraving showing men operating a paper folding machine c.1870. It is from a Victorian mechanical engineering book of the 1880s. This example was designed to fold large sheets of paper. With the paper sheet held in place on the table by registration pins, the ‘folder’ (the overhead ‘blade’) pushes down on the paper between two rollers to create the fold. It is then collected below the machine. A partnership with a brother, Chambers, Brother & Co produced its news- and book-folding and pasting machinery at a plant in in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
