AMERICAN POLICE ARREST ALLEGED POLYGAMISTS 28.7.53. American police made a dawn raid last Saturday on a religious sect at Short Creek, Arizona, who are alleged to be engaging in polygamous practices. A hundred police took part in the raid, supposed to be secret, and were surprised to find the 385 residents waiting for them quietly in the school yard. Although women and children were allowed to remain in their homes, some preferred to accompany the men to where they are being held pending trial.
