The Supermarine Spitfire Mark XII was a dedicated low-level interceptor with the Griffon engine, which made the aircraft 3 foot longer. The clipped wings of the XII enabled it to catch the FW 190 at low level, being capable of 350 m.p.h. at sea-level. One hudred were produced, all had pointed tail-fins and an armament of two cannons and four .303 machine-guns. The British single-seat fighter aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II.
