The new Anglo-Iraq Treaty which has been negotiated in London to take the place of the Treaty of Alliance of 1930, was signed at Portsmouth today, as the Civic Centre. The pact - which centres largely around the clauses under which R.A.F. bases are maintained in Iraq - was signed by Saleh Jabr, Prime Minister of Iraq and for Britain by Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin. The Rt Hon Alfred Barnes, M.P, Minister of Transport, on behalf of H.M Government and Mr I Hysing Olsen, C.BE, Head of the Norwegian Shipping and Trande Mission in London, on behalf of the Norwegian Government, this afternoon signed an agreement between the two countries where by all major outstanding claims arising out of wartime chartering to H.M Government of Norwegian merchant ships are cleared.
