Curious Chinese drawing of an English war-steamer, 1844. British steamship seen through Chinese eyes: 'an English War-Steamer, executed by a Chinese artist, soon after its arrival at Hong-Kong. 1950s, historical, tugboats pull the RMS Queen Elizabeth ocean liner into the calm waters of the French port of Cherbourg. Named after the British Queen Mother, it was the largest passenger liner ever built at that time (1938) and remained so for 56 years thereafter. She was used as a wartime troopship during WW2 and only became an ocean liner, as intended, in 1946. From then on, this luxury liner provided a weekly service between Southampton, UK and New York city in the USA, via Cherbourg, France. In 1972 in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, while undergoing a refit, she caught fire and sank.
