Yeoman Harry Davis, who is the Messenger and Hall keeper of St Bartholomew's Hospital, has been admitted to the Freedom of the City of London. Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham, 6th Earl of Stafford, was an English military commander in the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of the Roses. He acted as the King's bodyguard and chief negotiator during Jack Cade's Rebellion of 1450, helping to suppress it. When the King's cousin, Richard, Duke of York, rebelled two years later, Stafford investigated York's followers. Yeoman Harry Davis, who is the Messenger and Hall keeper of St Bartholomew's Hospital, has been admitted to the Freedom of the City of London. He was appointed on the Kings Bodyguard of the Yeoman of the Guard in 1923, after having seen 22 years service with the regular army. This is the highest honour a soldier of the non-commissioned ranks can hold. Mr Edwards is a Yeomen of the Guard and will be at the right hand from wheel of the Royal College. The Dahomey Amazons or Mino were a Fon all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin) which lasted until the end of the 19th century. The Mino were recruited from among the ahosi ('king's wives') of which there were often hundreds. Some women in Fon society became ahosi voluntarily, while others were involuntarily enrolled if their husbands or fathers complained to the King about their behaviour. This panel is made of polychrome glazed bricks which were found in a courtyard of the palace built by the Persian king Darius I (522-486 BC). It was part of a larger frieze depicting rows of guards, perhaps the 'immortals' who made up the king's personal bodyguard. Mr Harry Edwards, who in private life is now a commissioner at a department store in Southampton, will guard the king and queen during the 6 miles Coronation procession on 12 May. Mr Edwards is a Yeomen of the Guard and will be at the right hand from wheel of the Royal College. There are 100 yeomen the King's own bodyguard whose duty it is to attend all important State functions at which the King is present. The Dahomey Amazons or Mino were a Fon all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin) which lasted until the end of the 19th century. The Mino were recruited from among the ahosi ('king's wives') of which there were often hundreds. Some women in Fon society became ahosi voluntarily, while others were involuntarily enrolled if their husbands or fathers complained to the King about their behaviour. Benin/Dahomey: A group of Mino or 'Dahomey Amazon' warriors, c. 1890. The Dahomey Amazons or Mino were a Fon all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin) which lasted until the end of the 19th century. The Mino were recruited from among the ahosi ('king's wives') of which there were often hundreds. Some women in Fon society became ahosi voluntarily, while others were involuntarily enrolled if their husbands or fathers complained to the King about their behaviour. Membership among the Mino was supposed to hone any aggressive character traits for the purpose of war.
