The match takes place in the centenary year of the founding of the Toc H international charity, which has its Head Office in Birmingham. Set up in 1915 by an army chaplain, Tubby Clayton, as a club for soldiers of all ranks, Talbot House, near Ypres in Belgium became known by its intials, which were pronounced Toc H. Toc H were heavily defeated, but the match, played partly in an atrocious downpour, is the beginning of a new era for the club.
