Lady Jane Grey was queen of England for nine days - July 10 to July 19, 1553. Jane Grey was the great-granddaughter of Henry VII. Edward VI named her as his successor when he was dying and not one of his half sisters, Mary and Elizabeth. She was imprisoned in the Tower of London (see here), while Mary was named Queen. A 19th Century view of Allington Castle, a stone-built moated castle in Allington, near Maidstone, Kent. It was the birthplace in 1503 of the English lyrical poet Sir Thomas Wyatt and his son the rebel leader Thomas Wyatt in 1521. The young Wyatt supported Lady Jane Grey as Queen, but in 1554 forfeited the castle after his unsuccessful rebellion against Queen Mary. The plotters had held their first meeting at the castle before marching to London; after the rebellion had been crushed, many of the failed rebels were imprisoned in the castle and Sir Thomas was executed. RMF219YE–A 19th Century view of Allington Castle, a stone-built moated castle in Allington, near Maidstone, Kent. It was the birthplace in 1503 of the English lyrical poet Sir Thomas Wyatt and his son the rebel leader Thomas Wyatt in 1521. The young Wyatt supported Lady Jane Grey as Queen, but in 1554 forfeited the castle after his unsuccessful rebellion against Queen Mary. The plotters had held their first meeting at the castle before marching to London; after the rebellion had been crushed, many of the failed rebels were imprisoned in the castle and Sir Thomas was executed.
