In this oil painting, which is directed against the sole guilt of Germany laid down in the Treaty of Versailles at the outbreak of the war in 1914, stands the peace-loving Germania, and on the shield the saying 'IN PACEM VIVERE'. On the right, the patron of Germany archangel Michael, who is pointing to the danger of an attack on Germany from behind. In fact, in the background, troops of demons and devils are on their way to attack Germany. The picture suggests an honest Germany that is attacked by treacherous enemies. This photograph is a view of the port of Neufahrwasser, Nowy Port, near Gdansk. The port belonged to the Monastery of Oliwa of the Cistercian Order in the formerly independent city of Oliwa, today a district of Gdansk. Already after the first partition of Poland in 1772, the port fell to Prussia and was thus separated from Danzig. In the 19th century, the small town Neufahrwasser was expanded with a barracks to military base. The Treaty of Versailles in 1919 attributed the port to the Free City of Danzig. The Germans used the area as a transit camp during the Second World War.
