May 26th Banbury, UK. Around 300 JDE employees at the Banbury coffee plant took strike action today over the company’s plans to dismiss staff and force them to sign new contracts. The TUC found that already 1:10 UK workers have been threatened with 'fire and rehire' during the pandemic, forcing workers to accept worse pay/conditions. Manchester 1st February 2023 The Trade Unions Congress (TUC) called a national 'protect the right to strike' day for Wednesday 1 February. NEU teachers, PCS civil servants, UCU workers in higher education and train drivers in ASLEF and RMT striked on the day. Marchers gathered at 12:30 in St Peter's Square Manchester for a rally and march. The TUC has vowed to fight the new strike curbs “every step of the way” - including through parliament and the courts. The union body says the government’s new anti-strike plans are unworkable and almost certainly in breach of international law.
