He took gold at 17 km during the World Cup in Oslo in 1930, and t bronze in combined during the Oberhof World Cup 1931. During the 1932 Olympics he took bronze at five miles. Rustadstuen also participated in the 1936 Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In 1935 he was awarded the Holmenkoll medal.
