Victorian Model Village. Saltaire (Salt Air) built by the mill owner Sir Titus Salt. So his workforce could live and work in the same village in a good healthy environment out of the fume ridden industrial cities. Salts Mill named after Sir Titus Salt was closed down in 1986 after 133 years as a textile factory. Salts Mill the centre of the model industrial village was built on the huge profits made out of alpaca fibre in the nineteenth century. It has been named a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
