The iconic Balancing Rock overlooking St. Mary's Bay in Nova Scotia. A balancing rock, also called balanced rock or precarious boulder, is a naturally occurring geological formation featuring a large rock or boulder, sometimes of substantial size, resting on other rocks, bedrock, or on glacial till. This basalt rock is found at the end of a well groomed 2.5 km trail and 235 step staircase down to a viewing platform.
