The Boracay Peninsula near the White Beach Angol Road on Boracay Island in the Philippines. The resort is shown in 2005 when the island was still in its middle stages of development. The years that followed resulted in overtourism, unsustainable carrying capacity, and transparent environmental degradation. Instigated by sewage problems on the island, the government closed it down in April 2018 for rehabilitation and redevelopment. The full closure for six months was followed by a soft phased opening strategic plan based on sustainable tourism principles and practices.
