Takayama Matsuri Festival is a famous festival held twice a year in the spring and summer. It is a traditional event that has been continuing since the beginning og the 18th century. Festival floats called yatai attract many people to this mountain town. Each yatai is uniquely decorated but the one named modoshi guruma with the wind=updolls is the crowd favorite. The wind-up puppetry is proof of the high level of craftsmanship achieved in the modern age of Japan.
