Père Lachaise Cemetery or Cimetière du Père-Lachaise, was formerly known as the cimetière de l'Est, or, "East Cemetery") and is the largest in Paris It is located in the 20th arrondissement and is notable for being the first garden cemetery. As well as monuments to war dead its tombs also bear the names of major figures from the worlds of literature, theatre and music.
