Kastellet (Danish: the citadel), is one of the fortifications of Copenhagen, Denmark, and one of the best preserved in northern Europe. It is built in the shape of a star with bastions at its corners. Kastellet was a continuation of the ring of walled bastions surrounding Copenhagen. A number of buildings are located within the grounds of Kastellet, including a church as well as a windmill. The area hosts various military activities, but is primarily used as a public park and historical site.
