The last twenty three residents of Inishark Island (sometimes called Shark Island), off the coast of County Galway, Ireland, are pictured evacuating the Island. The residents have lost their battle with the winds. After being cut off from the mainland for weeks, sometimes months on end, the six families have left for the mainland to live in houses provided by the Irish government. 21st October 1960.
