More information:

The ornamental gardens at Walmer Castle in the English County of Kent. The castle dates from the C16th and was part of Henry VIIIs defences against the French situated as it is on the shore of the English Channel. In the 18th century the castle was converted into residence for the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, a post held by a number of illustrious statesmen. The fort can be seen in the background to these images. The ornamental gardens cover approximately half of the castle grounds and cover some 16 acres. Both castle and gardens are in the care of English Heritage. The proximity to the sea, its protected site and the well drained chalky soil creates a microclimate for plants to thrive.
