The pool has been left abandoned since 2020. PORTADOWN, NORTHERN IRELAND: THIS ABANDONED leisure centre was due to be demolished years ago but has mysteriously been left to rot instead with running electricity and intact swimming pools and diving boards.Images of green and murky water in the pools show a contrast to how well-loved this leisure centre was in this small town. Other images show the stands and diving boards left behind in perfect condition, as if someone were to come back and dive into the murky water below. The Cascades Leisure Centre in Portadown, Northern Ireland has been abandoned since August 2020 due to a new 30-million-pounds South Lake Leisure Complex being opened near to it. There is still water in some of the pools, but it has been left to go green and filled with dirt and grime. The leisure centre was the main attraction for those in Portadown, Northern Ireland when it was open, making it feel apocalyptic and strange to see it so empty and abandoned. The leisure centre was scheduled to be demolished after five months of its closure in 2020, yet it still stands abandoned in 2023. Due to the possibility of a demolition happening at any moment, it was an interesting and unique experience for Freelance Photographer Jordan L. (24) from London, England to be able to explore the site before it is forgotten forever after demolition. Jordan explored the site for over two hours, capturing fantastic images using a Canon 2000D DSLR combined with the 10-18mm ultra wide angle lens. ?It was a leisure centre used to serve the population of Portadown and further afield for swimming, gym use and exercise classes, ? she said. ?It was the main leisure centre for Portadown and the surrounding area that offered a gym, swimming pool and hot tub facilities, a steam room and more. ?Cascades closed in August 2020 as it was considered surplus to requirements after the opening of the new 30-million-pound South Lake leisure complex. ?
