Irish politician, writer and orator, one of the founders of the Catholic Association after the passing of the Catholic Relief Bill in 1825. Sheil was one of Daniel O'Connell's leading supporters in the agitation persistently carried on until Catholic emancipation was granted in 1829. From Cassell's Illustrated History of England, published c. 1890.
