'The Tribute Money', 1425. In an attempt to entrap Jesus, the Pharisees sent men to ask if it was right for Jews to pay taxes to the Romans. He looked at a coin bearing the Emperor's image, telling his questioners to render up to Caesar what was Caesar's (Matthew 22:15-21). Fresco from the Brancacci Chapel in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, Florence.
