The vast opencast coal mine at Manzhouli in Inner Mongolia on the Russian border in north east China. The coal and spoil is bought out by steam trains and the tracks slewed to follow the working of huge diggers. A fleet of standard SY Class Industrial 2-8-2 Mikados operate the system. The lines zig zag down to a depth of 260' (80m) along terraces some 30' (10m) in depth. The outcropping coal is clearly visible.
