This grey marble Memorial was erected on the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. At the bottom is a bronze plaque presented to Varaville by Canadian 1st Para veterans and unveiled in June 1997. The town was taken by the Canadians on D-Day following a fierce struggle, after the Germans, entrenched in the chateau with a 75mm cannon, surrendered.
