November 24, 2023, Tokyo, Japan: Tiphaine Veron's brother Damien Veron speaks during a press conference at The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan in downtown Tokyo. Tiphaine Veron, a French national, disappeared in the tourist town of Nikko on July 29, 2018, while on vacation in Japan. The day before she vanished, she emailed pictures from her vacation to Nikko, but nothing has been heard from her since. She went for a stroll next to a river, according to the Japanese police, and fell in and drowned. Her relatives think she was kidnapped and killed. They claim to have discovered multiple discrepancies in the official version of events and have voiced their mounting dissatisfaction with the way the Japanese authorities have handled the matter. The family questioned why the Japanese police are taking their time to launch a criminal probe while the UN and French authorities are demanding one. They have started reaching out to local journalists in a desperate attempt to find out more about their sister's abduction. Damien and his sister Sibylle wrote a book, Tiphaine ou es-tu?
