Topaz gemstones. This silicate mineral (aluminium silicate fluoride hydroxide) can range in colour from golden brown to yellow. Topaz can be polished in a variety shapes; the opposed bar is seen here. On the Mohs hardness scale it is rated 8 out of 10, with diamond at number 10. It is mined across the world, with notable occurrences in Brazil and Russia.
