Transactions of the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for the year ... . to fall away from the pelvis towardthe diaphragm, and my assistant suggested that we probablyhad to do with a cyst of the omentum. The operation, which was made through a right rectus inci-sion extending from the umbilicus to the pubes, revealed amultilocular cyst of the omentum, with apparent implantation30 396 LOUIS FRANK, metastasis, as we thought at the time, on all the peritonealsurfaces, the cecum, small gut, mesentery, uterus, anterior andposterior layers of the broad ligament, and the tubes and ovarieswere covered with the same character of cysts that composedthe omental mass. These were very easily separated from eachother and from their attachments to the parietal wall and otherorgans, the largest mass being in the omentum. The walls ofthe cysts were thin and their contents clear serum, and theyvaried in size from that of a pea to that of an egg. The variousloculi and cysts were easily separated from one another. Theovaries were of normal size and appearance, except for the. Fig. 2.—Cyst from over external ring (natural size). attachment of the cystic growths mentioned. The tubes werenormal. The uterus was normal in size and with soft walls. There was a bifurcated gall-bladder, the gall-bladder itselfappearing to be pulled down by the attachment of one of thecysts to one portion of it. The liver was normal with smoothsharp edges. There was a cyst the size of a hens egg in thegroin over the external abdominal ring. This cyst did notextend within the abdomen, lying entirely external to the ring, apparently attached to the round ligament. There was nohernia nor was the ring patent. After closure of the abdomenthis latter cyst was removed. Its appearance was similar to, and its contents apparently the same as the growths in theomentum. Both wounds were closed without drainage and the patientdischarged from the hospital, well, at the end of two weeks.Macroscopical exam
