Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Before highways and railways, before pioneers...the land we know as the United States was a vast wilderness. To protect these last remaining areas, in 1984 Congress created the Paria Canyon - Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. Coyote Buttes' outstanding scenery, desert wildlife, colourful history, and opportunities for recreation are protected in this landscape for future generations. One of the most beautiful geological formations in the world. An optimised / enhanced version of a US Bureau of Land Management photo. Credit BLM/B.Wick
