View of the Shanghai Disney flagship store at Lujiazui Financial District in Pudong, Shanghai, China, 16 May 2015. The new Shanghai Disney store, also the largest flagship Disney store in the world, may not have opened yet, but people have already begun complaining about the exorbitant pricing of items at the shop compared to other Disney retailers around Asia. The store, occupying 5, 000 square-meters of space in the Lujiazui business district, is set to open tomorrow (20 May 2015), and has already generated a good deal of buzz among Disney fans. According to reports, the flagship retailer incorporates Chinese elements not only in its design, but also in its products. Offering over 2, 000 various Disney products by local and international designers, 99 percent of the items can only be found in this store. According to reporters, products from the Shanghai store are relatively pricier than those found in the Hong Kong and Tokyo flagship stores. For example, a medium-sized Minnie plush toy costs 175 yuan in Hong Kong, but 220 yuan in Shanghai; and an iPhone 6 phone case costs 147 yuan in Tokyo, but 220 yuan in Shanghai. Apparently the store is expecting goods from the Shanghai retailer to be in pretty high demand. Items with the words "Disney Store Shanghai" printed on them are considered limited editions, and customers are only allowed to purchase one limited edition product per visit. The store will feature art retail space covering just one fifth of the area, while an outdoor plaza with Disney-themed landscaping will occupy the rest of the space.
