'View of the Temporary Bridge of London on Fire in the Night of April 11th. 1758.', c1770. Wooden bridge over the River Thames in flames as people watch from the bank. On the right a man directs a jet of water at the fire. A temporary bridge had been built while the medieval stone bridge was replaced. It was thought that the fire was due to arson. From Chamberlain's History of London.
