Waiting for the sun, Revellers at Stonehenge in Wiltshire welcome the Summer solstice. Solstice from the Latin word sol sistere meaning Sun standstill, marks the longest day of the year as the Sun reaches it's furthest point from the equator. Pagan's and Druids also celebrate the return to darkness as days shorten until the Winter solstice on 21st December. The Sun rose over Stonehenge at 04.52 and official Summer begun at 11:54 am.
