Weather fronts. Computer artwork of cold and warm weather fronts. A weather front is a boundary separating two masses of air of different densities. Cold weather fronts occur when cold air moves forward pushing up the warmer air preceeding it. Warm fronts occur when warm air moves forward and rises up and over the denser, cooler air. In each case the warm air rises, cools and therefore condenses to form clouds. This often results in precipitation if enough water is present.
