More information:

The Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) is a former city gate, rebuilt in the late 18th Century, originally as a Peace Gate. Commissioned by King William 2nd of Prussia 1788-91, it was fully restored 2000-2002 after extensive damage in World War 2 and patchwork repairs in the post-war period. The Berlin Wall passed to the west of the Gate, isolating it in East Berlin. Twelve Doric columns, six to each side, form five passageways. The Quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses driven by the goddess Victory, was remodelled when the gate became a Prussian Triumphal Arch after the defeat of Napoleon and the occupation of Paris by the Allies in 1814
