Armour - former Air Equerry to the Duke of Windsor when Prince of Wales - returned to the service in 1940 for similar duties. Born in 1904, he was a cadet at the Royal air Force College, Cranwell, from 1923-25 and was attached to No.Ill Squadron in 1926. He took a flying instructors' course at the Central Flying School the same year. He was attached to Oxford University Air Squadron as a flying instructor and returned later to the Central Flying School. After service with No.24 Squadron in 1930 he became an Air Equerry to the then Prince of Wales the following year. In May 1933 he was placed on the retired list owing to ill-health. Seven years later he returned to the service, attended the Central Flying School for a flying refresher course, and became an instructor there. Afterwards he was posted to No.9 (P) A.F.U. for similar duties. In March 1942 he went to Canada to No.8 S.F.T.S. and when to No.2 F.I.S. [R.C.A.F.] as a flying instructor.
