Woman scavenging for food, Bayreuth, Germany, April 1945. Hardships for civilians increased in Germany as World War II neared its conclusion. Bayreuth was heavily bombed by the Allies in the latter stages of the conflict, resulting in the destruction of a third of the city and the death of 1000 inhabitants. The photographer is unknown.
