In England procured in Westmorland, Worcester, and Sussex; occasionally in Scotland and Ireland. Found in France and Germany. Stem somewhat harsh, circular, slender, and erect; carryingthree or four broad, flat, rough, ribbed, pale green leaves, withrough striated sheaths; upper one extending beyond its leaf, and having at its apex an obtuse membranous ligule; the othersheaths shorter than their leaves. Joints four, the upper twonaked. Inflorescence compound-panicled. Panicle spreading, insome degree pendulous. Branches slender, and situated in pairson the rachis. Spikclets many, small, o
