Organisms that inhabit extreme environments are known as extremophiles and thrive in habitats which for other terrestrial life-forms are intolerably hostile or even lethal. This Archaea sample is an extremophile involved in acid mineral bioleaching from a Finnish mine. Bioleaching is the extraction of metals from their ores through the use of living organisms.
