The lantern, which will contain almost 1,000 square feet of stained glass based on an abstract theme, will weigh over two tons. and is to be illuminated from the inside and at night will be seen as 'a blaze of colour from all parts of the city'. John Hayward has also designed a 30ft steel figure of CHrist, already installed at the Cathedral, and a huge steel corona, weighing four tons, to be suspended over the High Altar.
